Foundational creative skill: Copywriting
With 9 years of experience in copywriting and a lifelong passion for writing, I’m confident communicating verbally across any medium. The more challenging it is, the more I thrive. Think: creating B2B SaaS brand verbal identities from scratch.
I know the craft in-depth:
- Verbal strategy, thinking critically about language and how it will be received by the audience. Every small decision has a big impact.
- Technical best practices across mediums, from the character counts across ad platforms, to SEO long-form blogs, to video scripts.
- Deeply intimate knowledge of storytelling, mood, tone, and brand alignment.
Writing history
- Earned a degree in English and environmental studies from St. Lawrence University in 2019. Participated in the International English Honor Society, worked as an English peer tutor, and completed communications internships and fellowships.
- Published a variety of writing, from literature and film critique to creative nonfiction to poetry. I’ll never forget the first time I saw my words written in a book in college. It was a dream come true.
- 2021 – 2023: Worked as a Content Writer, Marketing & Communications Coordinator, and freelance content marketer specializing in B2B SaaS.
- 2023 – current: Working at Butler/Till since 2023 as the lead copywriter and verbal strategist.
Emerging craft: Design
At my first job as a Content Writer, I was always sneaking on Canva. I discovered how much design fills my cup, so at my next job, when the graphic designer quit and they looked at me — I was ecstatic.
Learning on the job was beneficial, because I have approached it with the lens of creative problem-solving from the start. Ever since, it’s been my goal to grow, evolve, learn more, and build my confidence in design.
Total experience: 5 years, especially focusing on visual storytelling the past 2-3 years.
